UNDERWINTER SOWING OF VEGETABLE CULTURES (so-called WINTER ANNUAL)

(On Central Asia’s example)

On a private plot it is possible to gather of fresh vegetables: carrot, parsley, celery, beet, onions, salad, coriander, spinach, dill before usual time (two - three weeks). For this purpose seeds should be sown in the autumn towards the winter.
The success of business in much depends on plot preparation. It should be high-fertile, well protected from winds. Shortly before sowing the plot should be dug over, fertilized with compost or humus (3 – 3.5kg on 1m2) in a mix with superphosphate (20-25g on 1 mg) and a potassium chloride (10-15g). Nitric fertilizers are better for introducing at spring fertilizing of plants (10-15g on 1m2).
It is recommended to sow seeds, in southern areas in September, in northern and central areas - in November.
For underwinter sowing the groove is cut depth 5-6cm. When the soil will settle, depth of grooves will be smaller. Seeds are closed up on 1.5 - 2cm (onions - on 3-4cm). Light-textured soils are closed up more deeply, on heavy - smaller. Crops are mulched with humus. Seeds sprout up to frosts, and plants leave towards the winter. In the early spring soil is moldered, weeds are deleted; plants are singled and covered with plastic film. Further care of plants as usual.
